FIRCREST NEIGHBORHOOD "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT" WALK
Tuesday -- August 2, 2005
Trail Description: This walk included a wooded nature trail, Evergreen Memorial Gardens cemetery,
small community parks, and established tree-lined streets in the Marrion and Fircrest neighborhoods. Surfaces included pavement, sidewalks, new paved paths, and a dirt/fir needle trail. The trail passes Fircrest Elementary at mid-route,
which
allowed a choice of two shorter 5-kilometer options; one went through Tranquility
Nature Park and Evergreen Memorial Gardens, and the other went through elegant, older
established neighborhoods; recently expanded Haagan Park; and Fircrest Park.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT: The annual
National Night Out (NNO) began in 1984 and brings together concerned
citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, neighborhood organizations,
and other local officials to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community
partnerships. Designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, NNO
events can include block parties, cookouts, parades, exhibits, contests and
youth programs.
