START/FINISH:  Moulton Falls Regional Park, day use area. Moulton Falls Regional Park is a 325 acre park located in forested lands at the confluence of the East Fork of the Lewis River and Big Tree Creek. Several trails start in the park including Lucia Falls-Moulton Falls Trail and Bells Mountain Trail. There are many small waterfalls and rapids along the trail and much wildlife. GREAT PICNIC SPOT - AND BRING A CAMERA.

TIMES:  Start any time between 8am and 1pm. Finish by 4pm.

DISTANCE and RATING:  5km or 10km (3.1 or 6.2 miles), Rated 2.

10km TRAIL DESCRIPTIONThe 10 km route will start in the upper parking lot area and go past the restrooms then along the Lucia Falls – Moulton Falls Trail, a level compacted gravel trail, to the Trailhead at Hantwick Road then returning to the restrooms for about 9 km.  The route will then cross NE Lucia Falls Road and use a narrow dirt nature trail to the falls on Big Tree Creek before returning to the Start/finish area.  The first 9 km are very easy and strollers will have no trouble.  The last km will be very difficult for strollers because of the dirt trail with roots and other natural hazards including many steps with one very high step.  Strollers might want to detour this area.  Wheelchairs are not recommended.  

5km TRAIL DESCRIPTION:  The 5 km route will start in the upper parking lot area and go past the restrooms then along the Lucia Falls – Moulton Falls Trail, a level compacted gravel trail to the checkpoint then return to the restrooms for about 4 km.  The route will then cross NE Lucia Falls Road and use a narrow dirt nature trail to the falls on Big Tree Creek before returning to the Start/finish area.  The first 4 km are very easy and strollers will have no trouble.  The last km will be very difficult for strollers because of the dirt trail with roots and other natural hazards including many steps with one very high step.   Strollers might want to detour this area.  Wheelchairs are not recommended.

COMFORT:  Water and restrooms available near registration area and 10km checkpoint. Pets allowed on short leash with proper clean-up.

FEES:  AVA Credit Only is $3. No refunds. Non-credit walkers are welcome to participate at no charge. All must register, carry, and return a start card.

ELIGIBILITY:  This event is sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association, part of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV), and counts toward the acquisition of IVV achievement awards. Everyone is welcome to participate. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

NEW WALKERS:  This event is part of the AVA Achievement Awards Program. Participants can earn event and/or distance credits, then redeem completed books for a certificate, patch, and hatpin after certain milestones are achieved. Special New Walker Packets, including discount coupons at a bargain price, will be available at the registration table.

By registering for this event, each participant agrees to accept the guidelines for Volkssport events published by the American Volkssport Association (AVA) and to observe the principles of good sportsmanship. This event will be held regardless of weather; adverse weather may increase the rating.

DIRECTIONSFrom I-5 take exit #9 (SR 502/NE 179th St. ) Northbound go straight on NE 10th Ave. (Southbound turn left at end of access ramp, under freeway and then left onto NE 10th Av.) to NE 219th St .  Right on 219th to Battle Ground and turn left on NW 10th Av (SR 503).  Go 5.6 mile to Rock Creek Road (brown sign will indicate Moulton and Lucia Falls ) and turn right on Rock Creek Road .  Continue on Rock Creek Road      (turns into Lucia Falls Road ) for 8.4 miles. Straight at the 3 way stop, past Pomeroy Farms and Lucia Falls .  Parking will be marked and on your right. (Note – Go past the first small parking area on your right to the parking area that goes up a short hill.)
